    USA Hunting 2022

Last week I got my mule deer tag for Idaho, so unless COVID messes up my plans again, I'll be hunting central Idaho in the Frank Church Wilderness. Flying into the River Of No Return for a week to hunt deer, lion, bear and wolf. Then plan to hunt Montana for a couple of weeks, should draw deer and pronghorn tags up there.

Anyone else heading over to America to hunt next year?

Happy to help if you need any info. I have a good understanding of the regulations in the western states.

Sounds like a great trip. Seen a few vids of the Frank Church area, looks amazing. Rifle or bow hunting?

Rifle. I have hunted mule deer on the tops with my bow but was unsuccessful. Missed one at 40 yards twice

Yip, mountain lion. Cheap tags ($US40) and easy to get, so good to have one in my pocket.

Plan to hunt in either Montana or Wyoming next year.

I shot heaps of Black Tail in Canada years back. Its nice to get out and have a look around,I really enjoy the States, more so than Canada.

Good stuff. I'll probably go to WY too and visit a friend near Jackson Hole. Do you have preference / bonus points in MT or WY?

I agree, enjoy the USA more. Hunted Alberta which was cool but will stick to USA i reckon.

@cb14 without wanting to be too crass, what is the trip going to cost you?

    Approx. Costs for 3 weeks
Flights - $2000 (to Bozeman, MT)
Tags - $2000 (Deer 2x, pronghorn, bear, lion, wolf)
    Car - $1500
Other travel normal costs eg accommodation, insurance etc. I just hunt the whole time so no other event / entertainment costs.

I guess you can make it as expensive as you'd like but the only real difference compared to a non-hunting trip is the tags. You can get tags from anywhere from $US40 (Idaho bear) to $US4400 (Wyoming bison). Also most people use a guide and that starts from around $US5000 for a good guide.

Will you be using a guide? Also are you bringing home some meat or just skins antlers etc?

No guide, I've done 5 North American trips and all DIY / hunt swaps.

Meat is eaten and left for friends. I have taxidermy done over there and shipped home, well until COVID stuffed up the shipping!
