    so lets do the same with some real world figures and the mighty 270
    figures rounded for ease...
    3" high at 100
    dead on at 270 yards
    6" low at 350
    backbone hold at 400
    your 180grn 308 is awesome bush load but not really an easy longer range option.

    Ive found it quite difficult to put the deers location accurately onto the topo map. It only has resolution to about 50m.

    You've just explained the one thing above that shows you don't need to worry @Micky Duck. You shoot with the mighty .270, King of calibres, deer die of fright just knowing you are carrying it in their neighbourhood.
