Great write up MattyP. The way you were shooting that rig at the range and the accuracy you were getting and knowing what you know about the projectiles performance that was a 'sitter'.

Already sorted really. I bought two Exped sleeping mats, two sleeping bags. She's got a decent Kathmandu jacket and thermals, beanie, gloves, face sock, boots and gumboots already.

An old backpack that I load up with food and water...total pack mule hahaha.

It's her job to carry the 22 and she can shoot that, but not at anything live yet. The 308 is a bit much for her, she's only little! Fired it once at the range.

The whole things growing on her though. Our first outing she was totally disgusted by me legging some hares. This time she was happily trying to start a fire nearby while I hacked away at the deer.

Thanks for those diagrams Dundee, very informative. There appear to be some obstructions though - do you have any more without these? In particular the one on the left.

Well done Matt, that's a shot and a half for a first deer. A lot of people haven't shot game at that distance and you must have been fair pumped when she dropped. It's a pitty you left most of the good parts to rot but guess next time you're packing will get sorted.

Beaut hunt there and well done on your first deer. River crossings like that are always risky. Pays to lock arms over shoulders and wade over together with shoes on. Sucks getting wet feet/shoes but its so easy to roll an ankle or lose your footing and damage yourself rendering an early end to your hunt.

Yeah we did that with the crossing. We're in a predicament now because if we go back there I'd love to cross to get in, but then it's two days to dry the boots out, or a night with them by a fire which will probably damage them. (Just bought new boots).

I guess we could wear old pairs across and carry new ones, then dump the old ones and pick them up on the way back. Might do that actually, as we can nearly drive to the river.

What are your new boots? If they are leather fill them with bees wax (Snoseal). Stops the leather saturating.
