    Waikaremoana - Mokau Landing

    Hi Guys

The fam wants to go camping at the Mokau Landing campsite on Waikaremoana over new years.
Being the only hunter in the group of about 15, ill probably be itching to go for a looksee.

Any tips, advice, etc for hunting down there? i have never been there. i assume its just bush similar to around Tarawera etc?

    Cheers

The number of deer I've shot between the road and the lake based at mokau doesn't bear thinking about. Walk around the lake shore past the wairoa fishing club lodge and head up the old lake teraces from there.
Was BINGO the name of the farmer or the dog?

might pay to check what areas are open - normally only open for hunting North of Hopuruahine around the lake closed xmas new year -but who knows what bloody rules the new regime have come up with - but if you do have to hunt north the Hopuruahine stream is great -wind normally going up it so park at Taetamakora camp site and walk up for a couple of hours - some good slips - come back late evening -climb up and sidle thru the creek heads on way home - added this after looking at website - one can get a map online and by clicking on shaded areas one can see if open all year round and it looks like yes Mokau closed for hunting open above Hopuruahine
