    Waikato Public land advice

    Morning all.
Not chasing anyones honey holes or anything just after a bit of advice, experienced firearms holder been shooting ducks my whole life, done a fair bit of farm hunting for deer as well as the odd one on some public land.
Looking to broaden my knowledge/skills a bit with a few over nighters/ weekend trips and wondering about some good areas to start. Based in huntly so most areas apart from the kaimais are all round the 3 hour mark away. Been looking into places like the pureoras, have done trips down there previously but i know its due to get 1080d shortly, whirinaki, kaimanawas as well as the Erua area of the national park as i have some accommodation close by. Any recommendations on good starting points or just general areas. Feel free to message me privately if youd prefer, Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Happy Hunting

Sika Lodge is awesome for a friday night arrival in the dark then Clement’s mill road offers good access into sika country. Nice place to but your teeth on public land

If you can get them around Clements mill rd you are doing well.the deer are very educated there and don’t wait around long ..I do the stay in Sika lodge thing during winter and camp at old mill clearing spring/summertime.

Piropiro flats in pureora gets hunted heavily. Yet it’s still a reliable place to find animals. Heaps animals around at moment. The pre feed for the 1080 has been bumped back another week. So get into it well you can. Hunted around waihaha hut last weekend bugger all sign.
