    Depending on how fit you are its about 45 minutes to the top. From the top of the falls onwards you're basically hunting. There is good and bad bush there, i've only shot deer in the bad bush...so dont be afraid of spending the day pushing through shit, but take your time, id your target and think fast as you dont get a lot of second chances in the tight stuff.

    There are some areas of very thick supple jack up there you'd have trouble crawling threw but the deer seem to like them.Not sure how you'd stalk them but maybe worth poking your nose in for a look.
    But what Spook said makes a lot of sense ,he should know he lives pretty handy.

    I always refer to the Kaimai bush as "metre a minute"...but then that's where the stags are...in the deepest, most awkward piece of crap country you will ever find...get in there, smack it over and spend many an hour dragging it out...any animal taken in the Kaimais is a great achievement.

    Never been up this way but onthe other side i travelled a good 20metres without touching the ground she can be real thick in places

    I can point you in the direction of some good clearings and creeks to stalk up, pm me. If your keen we can cruise in for a hunt overnight or 2 at my fav spot near Wairere
