Went up to Mt studholme for a walk on Thursday, foggy day for it picked up a few wallabies on the way in. Got all the way to Mt Cecil spotted a wee bit of deer sign so we took a break on the wallabies and passed up about a dozen odd shots. Friday morning came around with a wee frost with a few more wallabies left alone we glassed and spotted a fallow about 2km away down at bottom of the valley( well I thort fallow mate thort bush). It was sitting down facing away and wasn't moving. After about 45minutes of glassing watching it with no movement we reluctantly decided nah must be a bush ( spooting scope would've gone a treat). We the decided back to the roos and turned around to see nice ol pig walking straight towards us. Waited for mate to line up on his .270 and I had time to grab the bipod out of my bag throw it on the .223 and line it up. Got abit impatient and bang .223 between the eyes and got my first pig. Looked back down the valley and our bush had disappeared....bugger. nonetheless cut up the pig (treated it like a deer as had no clue) and away we set off back up the studholme 4hr walk back the start not bad effort and a good trip. Fee more roos shot on the way out. Anyone else seen any fallow in there? Seemed like be very few and far between.
shot fallow ,reds and a chamois plus pigs goat and tahr all in the Studholme area great spot
Probably wont have to wait too long before the roos arrive at Arthurs Pass
