Missed out in the draw but picked up Mid Matukituki 4th period as a leftover; should be alright for a quick wander

My mate just got the ballot for the lower young block and he invited me down, stoked. Anyone familiar with it? Never hunted S.I, heading in for 6 days or so.

hey @Cantab14 we got the lower young 4th period 10th april to 16th april. never been in there but am going to do some recce missions with no gun and a camera leading up to the roar to see the terrain and figure out some likely spots and what not. you guys heli-ing in to your block? upper young looks good. all really steep country from the young mouth up though going to be bloody hard yakka. but that just adds to the excitement and satisfaction.

Steep is the name of the game in the blue river also, hope your block and period is more successful than ours!

@StagRyan lower young block turned up the exCt same results as yours by all accounts. No fresh sign probably nothing within a couple weeks at a guess. We were last period so unless the first 3 groups pillaged the whole block than id be inclined to say bugger all deer getting around that block too. Couldnt access tops without seriously big walks all bery bluffy and dense bush. Bit of a bugger. We left after 3 days and went tahr hunting instead. A lot more successful on that front.

any decent heads coming out of any of the Wanaka blocks this year ?
Harvey sure has taken a toll on animal numbers in past years. With venison prices heading back up I guess the waro boys will climb back into it again

I would of thought he was still on here, he does a podcast every other day "stag roar" on Spotify

I did see the date but its pretty much the only post on here talking about this block.
