Chris Stock. He took the best Wap photo I have ever seen. 12 big Wap bulls with a Red stag all standing together under a bluff on a grass face. Some really serious big bulls

Felt lucky to have had one of Ray's hunting mates as a neighbour. Was always a treat when he was in a chatty mood. Man some of the stories of their trips down Fiordland....I could've listened to him for days.

I enjoyed my few sojourns in fiordland. Both in a chopper and walking.

Yes I agree that’s not easy to answer , early days more animals but they also had very basic gear or even maps , they were real pioneers and tough bastards , vs say Tinsleys era , less animals , gear was a a lot better etc. but they were still tough bastards as well .

Such different times. Different animal considerations, different access considerations etc.

Anyone who had to explore their block with "unknown " on the map if there was one and carry a canvas tent.

A lot of the gear the early hunters had might be a surprise as to how good it was. Things like lightweight silk tents, collapsible canvas bowls, wool pants, longjohns and singlets, handmade alpine boots and as above lightweight oilskin coats, dried food. Gear that was as good or better than today's for those wet conditions, but those were the days of the explorers all around the world and there was gear made to purpose.

Evan Meredith and Mick Rosanowski darted many Waps on foot in the bush, which is pretty Hardcore

Mick Rosanowski would of been a hard man if he's anything like his son Alan.
