some might argue Sir Tim W...or his pilots who shot the shit out of deer of all types and arguably saved the enviroment, all be it for financial gain.
who is the greatest wapity hunter of all time???..... really it matters not in the slightest good on them all I say

I would like to see the Duleys shoot one with a long Tom with the old 205gn round nose…..maybe one day.

Yes I agree that’s not easy to answer , early days more animals but they also had very basic gear or even maps , they were real pioneers and tough bastards , vs say Tinsleys era , less animals , gear was a a lot better etc. but they were still tough bastards as well .

Such different times. Different animal considerations, different access considerations etc.

the one Fiona shot...yip that was entirely feasable LOL...and young Willy had a go one roar with the old 303..... he did shoot a red using one,on another episode with Tararua Hunter I believe it was...wooly jumper, kidney rotter n all...and the 222 with 4x on another episode so they do pay homage so to speak to the way it was.

Anyone who had to explore their block with "unknown " on the map if there was one and carry a canvas tent.

A lot of the gear the early hunters had might be a surprise as to how good it was. Things like lightweight silk tents, collapsible canvas bowls, wool pants, longjohns and singlets, handmade alpine boots and as above lightweight oilskin coats, dried food. Gear that was as good or better than today's for those wet conditions, but those were the days of the explorers all around the world and there was gear made to purpose.

Evan Meredith and Mick Rosanowski darted many Waps on foot in the bush, which is pretty Hardcore

Mick Rosanowski would of been a hard man if he's anything like his son Alan.

Mick shot 10,000 deer on foot before they got their first machine.

Do `t have much time last time to read the whole thing, because I have to drive to Qtwn for a dinner scheduled. I like the old ways, even I am not an old man. I believe these old rifles with open/ iron sight can make an accurate shot out of 500 yards. Some shooters in past they did have the talent, some in present day they just do `t know how they are capable of yet. I like sniper movies too, "Enemy at the gates" is my favorite.

This is the name I put up in post 7 but obviously most have not heard of him. Possible the first legally shot Wap (under licence) in NZ was his. Also was a 280 Ross user as a couple of them were. Vivian Donlad, well worth a Google.
