A Forest Research Institute scientist did a study on just such a proposal that deer filled the Moa's niche. Had all the facts and figures lining up. Was all good till his seniors got their collective noses out of joint and pulled his funding......

This is apart from the fact that anything the govt tries to do tends to result in the exact opposite of the original intention. At huge cost to the tax prayer, and disruption to those who can actually do the thing.

As an ex-Southern African I tend to flinch every time I hear the accent and see a self-proclaimed wildlife hero but this guy, from this one video, seems ok.

Yep, just had the call asking for money as well.
Played alone yes it very bad all the dieing birds etc, how bad cats are etc. Then came the ask for money.

Told them not while they were using it to fund legal action against the wapiti foundation when there are much more important and productive uses for the money.
I don't think I was the first person to give them that answer as the lady on the phone was quick to point out that she was just employed to make the phone calls.

Just heard DOC are going to trial poisoned meat drops in a well known St James valley for feral cats this winter. Hopefully this works as intended but will probably knock the pigs back as well. It does lay deep with snow though.

I'm a cat owner yet I'm all for getting rid of ferals.

No and didn’t click on the lick either. Caught up on the other thread discussing this and just confirms my prejudice towards F&B.

I dont know how true but I was always led to believe that pigs can detect 1080 in baits and will regurgitate it but dont quote me I cant seem to find anything quantitative to reinforce that
