Bring your 243, check out what your local hunting area is going to be like (targets/terrain), then make an informed decision and buy somthing to suit where you at.

It is a shame that NZ doesn't do a day shoot that you can attend and try before you buy. I would be happy to pay to try a few makes and calibres of rifle and see what suits rather than just it feels right so buy it in the shop!
Is there no way to get a shop, say in Waikato, to run a day at a range for all to try.
I say Waikato as that is where i am, chur.

What do you say folks, looking for a new boom stick bring yours along and let someone try it out.
I don't drink coffee, lattes, but i do have a 7 mm 08 if you want to pop a few at a gong. Suppressed so nice and "quiet"
This might actually be a great idea and if Mucko is happy round his place and see what you can hit. I am happy to bring....venison! lol
Oh and the brain started thinking bring a tent and the home brew but then that is stretching the limits of hospitality

There's a load of us off a forum over here that meet up at the national shooting ground once a month for a play. It is a great way to try a load of different kit and calibres.

So what do you guys recon is the most popular all round calibre over there? 308? I have got a 17HMR, shotty and the 243, but fancy something bigger for the Sika and Red stags etc

243 would be good for a lot of what you'd be hunting here.
If you want to step up .308 .270 or 7mm08 are the most popular calibers. Pick one of these in a Tikka stainless and everyone will think you were born here.

I wouldn't really bother with anything much bigger than a .308 or .270 for normal hunting situations.
I personally would go for .260, because I like it and reload. But for a non-reloader the 3 I mentioned would be your best bet.

Out of interest where are you English folk moving to?
My first guess would be Christchurch?

    Hopefully not Auckland
