    So 85% of targets are inside 300m, which with a good old 3x9 power scope on max setting gives a minimum open sight equivalent of 33m. So why are high power large objective scopes so popular?

    I guess my boring old 308 with a 1.5x8x32 minox is not that inadequate after all.

    50 - 475 meters so far. Mostly 200 - 350 meters average

    My main rifle wears a 1-4x20 scope. My long range rig had a 2.5x20 for 26 years, now has a 2.5-8x36
