Where the hell did you get the tripod for that. That is not original so what is it off, an old maxim by the look or a Vickers but certainly not a M1919.

    Remington 770?

Yes it will kill deer and there are worse rifles out there
the 770 was the upgrade to the 710 however the 770 still had the renowned balky bolt cycle, poor trigger feel, a lot of magazines tended to not cycle ammunition well and were even recalled to be fixed....a more important thing is that the bolt lugs lock into the barrel not the receiver and the barrel is hydraulically press fit into the action... making it near impossible for any gunsmith to replace the barrel safely. This is important as a lot of us out there love our rifles and tend to tweek them now and then, better stock, better bedding, trigger pull, nice re-crown, suppressor, then you get into reloading....... then when you want to put a nice tru-flite barrel on.....well you cant, and you have invested money into this rifle that was made to be a throw away.

That being said you could do worse for a first rifle its still a rifle that will shoot reasonably accurate therefore will drop game , but if you miss and go for the follow up shot don't hold your breath

my mate use to come completely out of the aim to reload and would often get a jam up, was rather funny. He was borrowing the rifle and when it came time for him to get his own he was thinking of staying with the 770 (you like what you know) until me and a mate took him to the range to shoot with a 700 model and a tikka t3... He then realised the difference

so maybe get him to shoot a couple different rifles and compare what suites him (my mate went for the Tikka t3 as a more reliable half bolt/"cock" can be machined) yes I said cock...

770's being used for oars and boat anchors so the are multi purpose, but its cheaper to buy the real thing

I looked at the 770 when i was looking for my first centre fire but they looked and felt cheap so spent a little more and bought the model 700 and love it my only regret now is getting the blued instead of stainless but all in all a nice balanced rifle that shoots well.

Why a remy, Tika, Howa,Browning X bolt all extremely good, you can pay a little more and go for a Sako but you will have a riffle that will not be parted from and more so if the Finnlite, I have various cals and various cutom jobs.As for the 270 you down to preference your choice, 30-06 have look at performance compaired to the 270 .See what others say, your money.

Model 700 BDL is a nice rifle, I have one although I have changed the stock to what I believe is a rem 700 xcr. I'd recommend that as well, nice gun.
