It works perfectly fine - unsurprisingly!

Further to my post in 'walnut and blued steel' (p16), although it took a weekend longer than planned, my newly acquired PH 25-06 works perfectly fine - unsurprisingly!

The golden hour didn't produce last night despite seeing a number of animals. I just couldn't get a positive bead on the one of eight that gave me a chance. I did however, get to watch and capture some footage of a fawn feed to within 35m of me.

Up and out the door of the hut before light this morning. Picked my way up to some clearings where I got busted last night. Poked my head over a clump of ferns and old stumps and spied three reds with their heads down feeding. Quietly, closed the bolt and lined up on the neck of the hind. At the shot, she dropped where she was standing (26m away). The damage the 117gr HDY RN inflicted was 'impressive'.

A few digitals and then I carried her out whole. Back home, I broke her down and plan to mince all of the flap from the rib cage and neck region.

Nice work, but you dont have to get that close. The 25/06 works at slightly longer range as well 400 m.

Nice work, and yes the 25 06 is a pretty good shooter even out much further than 26m. But then we take them where we see them.

Yes - not a very robust work out for a well regarded calibre
