You will note it says wannabe. Hopefully the human species, but knowing my luck...... Ever since I found out there was such a job, I thought it would be a great lark.
It didnt impress the the cook and the people at the prenatal class we attended. When it was mentioned there was such a trade, I innocently asked how I could go about getting the job as a consultant. I never got asked by the cook to attend the rest of the classes so it was a win either way Pretty sure I would be in heap of trouble after the first few appointments if I did get a job though

Nor did the thunderous fart that I made when I broke wind participating in the relaxation class with my miss us!
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Ha Ha Ha How far into it was relaxation class? I never made it past the first one. I tried every excuse under the sun to get out of going. If I only knew an innocent question would nail it.

PLB, GPS, Rangefinder, Ballistics programme on an IPOD, torch and headlight, digital camera/video, spare batteries, binos, map, compass. Its no wonder I always take a mate with me, I need someone to carry the meat that won't fit in my bag because of all the gizmo's that are in it!

Not much into techno but normally map ,compass ,solid fuel cooker, billy , small first aid kit, emergency rations.
Thought a GPS would be a smart move & picked up a Magellan Explorist at a good price.Which would be great if I knew how to drive the thing. The guy at the shop with the info was out,so don't know how its meant to work.Does have a compass in it ,pretty sure how that works.Might find some-one who can show me but does feel better having it in my day pack.Have spare rechargeable batteries for the Magellan .Long as I don't forget my glass's I can still read a map sort of.

Fark, I feel better after reading all of this!

I carry the kitchen sink usually.
Compass (plus emergency one on a loop in my day pack)
    Maps
    GPS
Binos and range finder depending on the situation
    Camera
Headlamp and spare batteries (for GPS as well)
Added a PLB to the gear in April.
    Welcome to Sako club.

I’m definitely one to embrace technology, life is much better with it - navigating in the bush without a GPS is like trying to imagine using a rifle with no sights?

I did get a solid foundation as a professional hunter for many years before GPS's were around so in that regard if need be I can get out a compass and get myself out of a bad situation. I still carry a compass and map with me on (nearly) every hunt I do, but in reality the last time I even looked at my compass would be about 6 years ago?

In lieu of the above topic I was determined to go back to basics again.
Usually I fill my day bag with gadgets, excessive gear, excessive food and water but tomorrow I'm taking a different approach.

    Gun...tick
    Ammo...tick
    PLB....tick
    Knife (small folder)....tick
One Biscuit and one muesli bar....tick
    Shitter paper....tick

Now to see if I can knock over a deer without the gadgets !

By my forum handle, you guessed it I like my gadgets. Garmin GPS, phone with GPS, both with maps. Good headlight and torch, they go with me. But come to navigation I prefer a paper map and occasionally a compass. Normally I just pick up a map look at the landscape and can pinpoint pretty closely where I am on it, even 30km away from a last reference and just following others that know where they're going (can't trust those coasters). The gadgets are more the backup/camp toys.

I do want to add a PLB to the kit though as I'm not as young as I used to and the body is rather dodgy. A good chance that a bit of a tumble would have me unable to walk, ever.

Yeh it's a bastard when the simmer frame gets tangled in the supple jack. Makes a good bench rest though!

Well todays hunt was a success of sorts. We saw 5 hinds that were all well within shooting range. We left them for another day in hope there would be a stag around the corner. Turns out there was no stag around the corner... All of this was achieved by using no gadgets !
