I thought the Forum ambassador was... Tahr but then again he does not beat his chest but just does it admirably by current posts. LOL. Saw a few deer earlier this morning dispelling the adage they dont come out in the full moon which was completely clouded over. Got a couple of hares so the job got done for the Taupo trout fisherman. Is hunting solely tallys or the intrinsic element of enjoyment whether you pull the trigger or not.

Yeah I’ve got a couple stories from
When I used to kick around in those circles, but they are campfire yarns not for the internet.

Anyone notice how quickly he changes hunting partners? Might be something too that

I'm not into watching hunting stuff at all, but the little I've seen of Rogee, I didn't see a single clean kill, infact I thought it was bloody disgusting.
I'm into longrange hunting, but the clear lack of control on when to take shots and when walk away was frightening.
Yes, there are just deer, and they are absolutely everywhere, but they still deserve a decent death.

I watch his videos cos im keen to learn and shoot better at long ranges, and I gotta disagree with you. I think in most videos the deer he shoots at are generally dead on the same slip he shot them on and don’t go far at all. He does leave quite a few too. Generally if it’s a bit windy and they’re past 600, he leaves them.

Are there a few that he can’t find, yep, is he showing us the others that he doesn’t find, who knows? I reckon most are clean though.

100% first time I watched I was not expecting to like it but he does some cool trips and seems a good bloke. I do wish he'd cover up a few spots though.

In all honesty I'm surprised the Maniatis thread didn't come early anyone on FB would have seen his antics. He's a decent smith and the fastest turn around for sure if you bring him a pie and a coffee but he does hassle people in private about using or suggesting other products than his. Plus hes a smith that when you ask for 1 thing he wants you to do what he wants which is beyond frustrating sometimes. He's like many also very exaggerated making some huge claims about his products like strongest, toughest, lightest that anyone can look up and confirm or deny these claims.

As for Rogee I'm not much to watch on the trips of his I've seen. Don't think meat harvesting makes for great TV unless there's a unique story or adventure but that's personal. I do seem to see a lot of wounded gear in the small bits I have seen. I guess it's not my personal taste and I'm not completely about the long range focus but he seems an alright bloke just not one I agree with a lot of the time but that's nearly everyone so can't hold that against him.

Enjoy watching all nz hunting content on youtube but a couple of things ive always wondered while watching rogee are, How many $ worth of gear/clothing is this fulla walking around with/in? Who is cutting the native to form his shooting "blinds" and what happens to his rifle while retrieving game.

Some more comments from me. i feel the need to try answer what I can as I have moved around in the LR hunting circles a bit although now i'm more of a bush hobbit when not on private land.

Where is the rifle and pack when recovering gear? Its stashed in the bush, quite common amongst some hunters to stash all but the minimum when doing a big recovery. not saying ive done it and not saying i agree/disagree with it.

Shooting off doc tracks? Cant 100% tell but i remember talking to a few Doc and Firearms officers a few years back about the definition of "shooting from the road/track" and quite a few said to me as long as you are next to the road/track shooting away from it into an area that you have a permit to hunt it then you are all good. but some said 200m away from the track/road and some were not sure. so I guess depends who you ask, my go to is to ask the local who will likely be the one that you have to explain yourself to. i dont know the law's definition which i was trying to find out.

Shooting over doc tracks? Haven't seen any videos like that, but yeah not allowed I'm pretty sure.

Who cuts the shooting blinds? I'm sure he might have done a few himself, however I've found many a shooting blind that has been there for many years and obviously well used in various forests up on the tops or across slips even in the kaimais, so i geuss we cant `100% tell who did what, just like guys who cut down natives around campsites and huts for firewood. again not saying i do it or agree/disagree, its just what i observe
If you can't kill it with bullets, dont f*ck with it.

We would stash rifles and carry the bolts.

Definitely agree, Tasmans's videos are great fun. Some really fun stalks in awesome country and some absolute monster pack outs (there was a vid with three deer / 87kg pack). Also backpacks some absolute nonsense into the hills like a pasta maker or wok hahahahaha, legend!

It's not a hunting trip if he doesn't bust out the mincer in the middle of nowhere

How tough is he? Like no one else I’ve ever seen. Certainly has started the umbrella club too. :-)
