Very ungentleman like treatment of that sako, at least you care more for its wellbeing than your own seeing you were with it and aren't moaning about torn skin/clothing prickles in the socks, arse, hands and down the neck. (-:
like a Kimber in 270win ? ......easy I'm only kidding bro
the problem with this is if you buy anything close to what you have (ie: 308win) you will never take the Sako out, this is a situation I have been in many times and ended up selling off rifles too close in performance as they don't get used and I'm not rich enough to keep them all.
for me I think the ideal safe on a limited budget would be.
223rem for varminting and up close stuff (something like a Howa mini I don't mind if it get's beaten a little) cheap to feed and will shoot heavier pills if required.
308win something sensible that is incredibly versatile.
some sort of Magnum (take your pic) for longer open tops stuff.

Bumps and bruises... will tidy up and baby it from now on
Sight hood full of dirt and crap and nearly pushed it right off...
Scope all jammed up with vegetation and the lenses are covered in crap, will probably be all right but will be a delicate cleaning process to avoid scratches

You've just reminded me why I didn't purchase that beautiful 6,5x55 left hand equivalent several years ago. CNI bush stalking is all about bush lawyer and falling over!

I wouldn’t worry about it. A well used rifle has been hunting and has good stories to tell. Especially a wooden/blued shooter.
I don't understand this reluctance to use a nice rifle in the bush and allow it to become as garked as the owner . . . .
However having said that I also don't seem to be as prone to garking rifles as some people, and I feel thats about discipline in the bush, being very conscious of where your rifle is at all times . . . I alweays think - if I stumble going across that rough spot will I fall with my rifle "cradled". Don't get me wrong, I can fall over with the best of them, shit happens.
But Murphy gets us all, not so long ago we were hunting up the Hopkins in winter, and it was mighty icy. I stepped out of the truck, put on my daypack, checked and slung rifle, took about 3 steps and CRASH, I landed really heavily on my rifle, installing some nasty garks (they are still there),and severely bruised myself. Darn clear ice on rocks!
What about a Kimber Montana 280AI

I dont mind really bashing round with a nice rifle but I feel that theres not very many around of the type I currently have and it would be nice for our kids and our kids kids to be able to find a "mint example" of something a bit different when they are of age so whilst I have no qualms "using" it I dont think its the best do it all tool if its to be kept in any kind of good shape
