    Always the chance of an animal popping up anywhere, and you often walk through the bush to the tops. Go the variable power for sure on a hunting rifle. If I was going fixed I would stick to a 4 or 6 power max

    Yes Leupold vx3i 3.5-10x40, successfully shot steel out to 900yds and happy to take animals at 500yds in ideal conditions. Have shot animals out to 420yds so far and never felt disadvantaged.
