    Yep, you are talking half inches to 0.8inches in trajectory out to 400 which is more academic than anything else, now throw up the energy at those distances and the .223 is leagues ahead.

    Then take into account that you have only looked at 1 bullet weight, for example the .223 40gr smokes that trajectory to 400!

    The problem I find with the 17 projectiles you have quoted is they are to soft for any thing bigger than rabbits, hare and foxes. To get better penetration a non plastic tip projectile like berger or 25gn hornardy hollow points is required. This is what I have learned over many years of using a 17 ackley hornet and a 17 rem
    My mate who uses a .222 and 40gn plastic tipped projectile has the same penetration issues, so its not only about cal but bullet construction, but he likes the flatter trajectory Cheers Ackley
