I had to hand in my evil 223 and don't want a bolt version. Being a leftie I would prefer a semi. I have been considering a cz512 22 mag. I do also like the idea of a 17 but the savage is the only semi I am aware of and some of the reviews are average. And how would a shortish barrel with suppressor effect speed/accuracy/reliability as I don't really want a 22 inch barrel plus suppressor...

    stop telling porkies.......
what you REALLY REALLY REALLY want is a lever action winchester .22magnum...with slightly shortened magazine capacity.
I can agree 100% with that sentiment as have sent hundreds of rounds down barrel of my buddies to great effect....and ammunition is MILES ahead of what it was back then.possums, rabbits hares goats and wallabies all fell to that rifle...oh and a stag...but did learn head shooting stag looking at me wasnt good option,9 shots slid along skull and the last 2 in the mag went into crease as it walked away with one hell of a headache...got 100 yards till lungs filled up with red stuff and it tipped over.

Funny you should mention lever action as I thought about that , can get both calibres in lever. But as a large chunk of my safe is levers and if the stazi decide to ban those I'd have nothing left....if you believe the rumours about what is on the list for the chop including calibres I would be left with a 22 and 243....

I've seen 2 of these in the last month in Chch, both have been screwed by a bad job at shortening the inner tube. In fact one had a suppressor on the end and the tube itself was bent so you could remove the inner past the can to load it. Heartbreaking!

That is wrong in so many ways. I had looked at a new Henry rather than cut up a classic but the loading tube/suppressor thing was an issue. Now if there was a side loader like a Marlin...

probably not wrong but something short barreled and suppressed like that in 44mag say would be an awesome bush gun or running subs over dogs....and they look cool and allow fast follow ups.
I seriously considered doing the same thing to my rossi 44 shortening the mag tube and overbarrel set up. short , light , plenty of put down power.

Yes... it's on trade me but has got the tube loading magazine so would be a pain with suppressor I think. After the suggestions about 223 and seeing Tommy's howa mini chassis porn in his thread I'm thinking maybe something along those lines maybe instead. Would be a better all round rifle I guess at the end of the day.
