What rod do you have, I've had 2 accu-tech 4 piece rods and they've both broken at the ferrule. Cheers

A friend has a sako quad with 17 and 22 mag barrels he finds that both shoot better when dirty. It takes about 20 rounds after a bore clean to get it going again and then it seems good for 250 rounds. He doesn't chop and change ammo though hornady 17 and 30 only.

Need to get a .17 rod actually, any recommendations? I prefer one piece.

I've got no complaints with my Pro shot rod, for what that's worth.

Funny you say that as I find the same thing fur my CZ .17 HMR

Accuracy drops off after 400-500 rounds then it gets a good clean typically with Hoppes then I check the zero and find after 12-16 shots the groups are nice and tight

Can't recall what size/brand/specie of TIG rod I found, but it was a tight fit and softer than barrel.
In the wait interval it's about right to smoke a cigarette. Standing away from the solvent bottle at the time would be advised.

Clean as per a centre fire. A good cleaning routine will not make shoot anymore accurately but will prolong the life of the barrel

I clean my 17hmr only when the accuracy noticeable starts to drop off. I use a carbon Bore Tech one piece rod . However I did notice that on the last clean the accuracy wasn't really restored.
The rifle has done 5000 rounds, a bit of research showed shooters overseas experiencing the same issue.
The fix was a big scrub out of the bore to remove copper fouling, it took awhile and I was amazed how the copper had built up over a couple of years despite cleaning every 250 rounds or so.
End result was worth it with the accuracy back to normal.
