@Ftx325 I bought the release guard too, solves the problem. I love my Howa Mini but reckon they let Homer Simpson design the mag catch!

I have a mini in 223. I cut half the mag catch off and it's all good now. It shoots like a laser. I've got a DPT suppressor on. Might get one of those excel chassis for it one of these days.
short action if you want to target shoot, more chassis/stock available and you also have the ability to run reloads with a relatively long coal compared to a mini, if your wanting to hunt id get a mini, but i would consider to get a mag release protecotr/shroud, VTP makes a good one
Mini action with the forend slimmed down with a grinder, mag cut down flush and release cut down and rounded off then won’t catch on anything. Doesn’t cost anything to modify it either. Nice and lightweight
what stock you want will determine which one you go with
Im a big fan of the mini but do wish they fitted it with a double stack floor plate
the excel lite chassis is great for what you get
Im a fan of small light rifles so will take the reduced size every time
I was debating these 2 rifles and ended up going with the standard howa 1500 as I much prefer the floor plate to a magazine whether it sits flush or not.
It has a hard plastic stock on instead of the rubbery one.
I just tried it on 2 different scales, bare rifle comes in at 2.7kg
Mini action specs say it is 2.9?
If thats correct your only benefit of a mini is slightly shorter.
