Most brands make an entry level rifle that comes in around that price. Nzar15 has them from about 1400 usually, although the next lot may be a bit dearer with the exchange rate.
Yeah a standard ar15 from a reputable brand is probably not going to be as accurate as a tikka but for 99% of hunting/practical use with the 223 it ain't going to make much of a difference.

nzar15 stocks are just about all gone and with the police putting a stop at this time of imports of guns and parts, who knows if any more will be imported. ontarget in howick has a few left Andersons at $1600 plus a few gunshops have limited supply. Watch the prices increase over next few months as they dry up.
Cheers for the input brothers, It looks like ill need more then one .223 haha think ill smash the bolt action out first still fairly new to hunting and shooting. But an ar will definitely be in the pipeline for a future purchase. Cheers guys
if you wanted to be super cool you could look at a 222![]()
I've gone through a few .223s over the years.
Savage 11
Tikka T3 Varmint
Miroku M-Bolt
Sako 75
Schmeisser AR15 16" barrel
Mixed build AR15 11.5" barrel (actually 5.56mm)
Mixed build AR15 20" barrel (5.56mm)
Still have the Sako, Schmeisser AR and 20" AR.
So that's 3 in the safe at the mo.![]()
Welcome to Sako club.
@Been_Upto do try an AR15 if you get a chance. Be warned they are addictive.
I would also say Savage are not a bad option for a bolt gun.
If you like your tikka, then buy another one in 223, and set the trigger at the same pull weight, so the muscle memory is the same from one to the other.
