Another vote for 308 from me of course.
On the Bergara have you tried the mountain premier? It's not what I would call an ultralight but it is a lot lighter than the extreme.

I see on their website that the mountain premier is 2.8kg and the extreme hunter is 2.9kg. If those weights are correct then not a lot between them for the extra price tag. Both are only 100-200 grams heavier than a tikka.

Those weights are a little misleading as the mountain has 4 more inches of barrel that you will no doubt be cutting off.
But yes it is a lot of money for the weight saving but there are other advantages to the different action and upgraded trigger.
I will get a weight of mine docked to 16" when I am home.

Ignorance is bliss for me. I bought a .270, use factory ammo, and the deer fall over. That's all I want. I don't want to complicate things by over-thinking. Save your money for fuel to get to your hunting spots.

Docked to 16", dpt sup, tally rings, vx3 hd and I replaced the steel bottom metal with an alloy aftermarket.

I think you want a Tikka 270wsm or 300wsm. Lightweight and 500m capable in less than optimal conditions.

    I'd have a 24inch barrel unsupressed for 270 or 308.
    I shoot a 19inch 270w with 130s that pretty much replicates the 22inch 6.5 swede with 120s.

I like shooting suppressed rifles but hate leaving performance on the table(or in the scrap bin)

No I don't want a magnum, just got rid of my 300wsm. Settled on 308.
Going to look at a couple of rifles but I have been offered a good deal on Bergara extreme hunter.

Thanks all for the help. Settled on a Bergara extreme hunter in 308. Slightly heavier than the tikka but to me they feel nicer. Still lighter than my 300wsm which came in at 9.9lbs. Will hopefully be nice to carry and shoot. Will just need to sort a suppressor and later on some components to reload. @veitnamcam where you talking about the premier 2.0?

Good choice. Shame you have to make a new profile now haha. Maybe 308forlife is available?

It's still a dirty 30 so I recon it can still stand!

I am intrigued to know what loads will be used for either cartridge that will deliver enough energy at 500 mtrs.
A Pennsylvania Whitetail may need a minimum 1000 fp of energy from a 3030 and be inside 170 yards as prescribed by Townsend Whelan but a decent red is a whole different matter, 1500 foot pounds and 2200 feet per second at impact.

Energy doesn't kill things projectiles do. Just need the right type for the velocity and put it in the right place.
Otherwise the 223 would never kill anything.
