No one has mentioned a 6.5/06........I would of thought a 6.5 Amax would out perform any .270 pill.....and give a .280 a good challenge too

Just checked the Federal web site. Thought they would be less biased than Remington or Winchester. There is a difference in drift between the 270 and 280.
With each loaded with the 150gn nosler partition (just to compare apples with apples) in a 10mph wind, the 280 drifts 0.1 of an inch (2.45mm) less at 500 yards. About a third of the width of the projectile. Hardly enough to turn a chest shot into a gut shot.

Comparing a brick with a brick is a bit pointless. The advantage 7 and 6.5mm have over the 25 and 270 cals is better bc projectiles.

Compare a 162gr A max to a common .277 bullet. Try 150gr SST or Berger to even out the odds.

If only the 162 A max could be found in the shops in NZ at the moment!
Better a poor bc bullet than a mythical legend! ;-)

Most 6.5's I've seen used have performed adequately at best and averagely at worse.
The 25.06 is a cartridge that has always made me curious.
The 280? Nope. Why would it...? No reason it would.
    More powder for nothing.

And the difference in powder charge between a .25-06 and a .280 would be about...?
You surely can't be arguing that a .25-06 makes you curious, comparing it to the powder charge of a .280?!

    Good grief.

I don't have a 270, (have had) but I know that the case is brass and the bullet is either 130 or 150 grns and can be quite pointy. It's the powder stuff in the case that burns and makes the bullet come out. Any difference between this and other similar calibers is simply an argument constructed for the sake of having one.

280, 270, 3006, 308, 6.5, 708...the difference is immeasurable without a computer. I've had all of them, and would be happy with any of them.

But please do carry on, I'm enjoying it.
