Is this thing getting a suppressor? Are we just assuming that?

Because without one it will be like firing a small rocket into your shoulder.

Curious trade off with a can between shortening to a practical length and then really needing it due to muzzle blast.

6.5x47 will make 2800 with a 140 and just over 40gr of powder and it doesn't need more than 20" of barrel.

It's assumed the Creedmore is the same.

For an extra ten grains of projectile and 100ft per sec, how much extra powder is this 270 WSM burning?

    Because a 140gr 6.5 load is a very effective 300m killer

I dont regret chopping my kimber 300wsm to 20 inches and the deer still fall over. I think its about perfect.
19-20" 300wsm is one of the greatest guns around. Good mix of speed and compactness

The intended purpose for this rifle will be to hunt stags with, but also be able to double as a bush rifle. So in my mind looking for something with enough punch, but still enjoyable to shoot. Yes, would like to suppress the rifle. Preferably looking at a calibre that is available in a factory option. So option one would be a 6.5 PRC or 6.5x284 with 150-160gr hunting bullets, but very limited SS options in a PRC and 6.5x284 options. The other alternatives would be a 6.5CM or my favourite the 6.5x47,but perhaps these will not provide enough velocity en energy out of the 150-160gr bullets. The next logical step and ideal would be a 7SAUM or 284 Win, but these would require custom option. The 7-08 is another option but in my mind not much between it and 308. The 270WIN as some have mentioned is also a option, but have a few friends with 270WSM that really rate them. So yea, the 270WSM could potentially be a compromise and solution.

Ive got an xbolt .270wsm that I docked to 22". It performs very well and the difference between it and a 6.5PRC is negligible. 150's @3k and my favourite 129 Barnes LRX @ 3.3k. Flattens everything out to the 475 yds Ive used it.

I would still though recommend a docked standard .270 for efficiency.

Size: 2.21 MB that is the group from tonight. Red square is 1”. 140gr at 3065 is plenty. Yes that is 3 shots at 100m and the round above was the first sighted at 100m, not part of the group. Thinking of doing it for myself at 20” now

I have had a Win Extreme 270WSM l docked to 20" for use with a suppressor for years & have taken everything from rabbit to Buffalo with it , from memory it spits out 140grn at just over 3000fps ,taken Deer at 450 yds & Tahr at 480yds.IMO you should look long & hard at a 7/08 or 308 that will do all you want to do.

IMO from what info you have given l would look seriously at a 7/08 or 308 & recently there have been some bargain proven rifles for sale here on the forum.

I had a brief play with some load development loads for my 21" standard 270 today. Around 58.5 grains of Superformance will send an 140 AB at around 3060. I went up to 3110 but this was too high and starting to get a slight scrape.
