I feel like that may be a bit on the big side. Why not try the 162eldms? Barrel length?

What’s your bbl length and twist ?
    In 20 or 22 in bbl 284s I run 160 TMKs , 162 AMAX or 150 ELDx.
The 22 in bbl 1:8.5 twist get me 2930-2950 fps with 162 AMAX w RL17, and 20 in bbl around 2850 fps with TMKs and north of 2900 fps with 150s

I run a 22inch barrel with 160tmks, getting 2870. Tried berger 168 last weekend and had a higher poi by just over an moa. Didnt chrony however as it was just an accuracy test

As superdiver says 180 is heavy for a .284. I run 162 EKD-X with 2213SC in mine. Does the job well.

I have some 180 eldms here that im planning on trying in my 22" M595 284win soon for gong shooting.

Of course the barrel twist may not stabilise them.

Hi Wayno. I ran the 175gr ELDx out of mine, worked great and had very good penetration. The 175 or 180gr will hit with authority.

I had a 27" barrel on mine and the 175s left the barrel just over 2700fps.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd rather shoot the 162's

Thanks guys , i'm looking at running a 20 inch barrel ,, its just the 7mm08 barrel i took of when i built the 30.284 .I was planning on turning it a 284 I was curious to see what people where using and what worked for them. And if there was a weight that was the the best combo of performance vs barrel length.

I have a 19". Got ok speed with the 162eldms but ended up shooting better with the 150sgk. Depending on what you want to do obviously but the sgk covers 0-500 fine.

Excellent, plenty of penetration, vitals turned to mush and usually a decent exit wound. Have not used them really close up, mostly 100+ yards to long way out

You'll probably only have the twist rate for 162's anyway then. I've shot a few animal with the 284 using 162 eldm closest about 40 furthest about 500. Has performed awesome at all ranges.

Probably wouldnt try punch it through a big red shoulder up close but thats not what the primary ourpose of the rifle is.

I'm probably going to have a play with the 150 eld x as well

    My barrel is 19inchs and I'm at 2750 with the 162's and h414/win 760

160gr TMK out of my one on a fallow Doe.

Range was between 80-120y off hand.

That exit hole is the size of my fist and some. I have normal sized hands for a 6 ft man. Just to give you a idea of scale.

    20"barrel pushing them about 2830fps.

Have shot out to 250y and kills amazingly well no matter what it is. Albeit I have only shot fallow this year and haven't had a crack on a red yet so fingers crossed for a yearling meat animal
