    Cool 300win mag re barrel

    Hi all......

After much umming and ahhing I've opted not for a 300WBY but for a 300Win mag Trueflite barrel for my Mark V.

The next question is pertaining to barrel length, as it will be getting a STUG stock to keep the weight down what I was trying to figure out is do I go for a 26" or a 28" barrel? Number 3 fluted or number 4?

I would like something that's carryable for the tops but not so much as to adversely affect accuracy?

It will be getting a DPT on it also just for consideration.

Any help for a 30cal fanboy!

weight wont be such an issue but a can on a 28" barrel will be a pain in the ass. Been there done that with a 338 with a 30" barrel plus break.

A 26"-28" barrel with a suppressor to carry around the tops?
Ok. Not what I would do and I would not want to shoot it off hand or unsupported...but, if that is what you need it for I would think 26" would be fine. Don't think you will gain a heap in the 300wm going to 28".
As for fluting. Bit of a lottery. If the rifle shoots, it shouldn't make much of a difference weight or accuracy wise.
    Just my 2c.

Did you say "umming and ahhing"? Well I've never heard that before, most people say 'humming and hahhing'! I thought I was the only one that spoke like you, well done!

I'd probably go a 26" on a 300 Win Mag, tending to sacrifice length for width, however, definitely not a True Flite barrel, and I'd lose the can!

James, I got mine done in .300 Blaser Magnum by Hugh Bradley through Stager Sports, awesome job and great rifle.

He know's his stuff, drop me a PM and we can talk about it further if you like.

25in Barrel heavier contour, with fluting, 1:10, run the MAE A10 Suppressor, damn accurate.

Well depends on what you want as a final out come I suppose.

What weight, practical usable range, portability & how much you want'a spend ?

So where to start, practical range for a 300 win mag, let's just say 600 ( yes I know it can be more yada yada yada ) but for ethical hunting 600 is plenty, so a 26" tube will be all you need, as it's a hunting rifle a #3 contour will be a good balance of weight & not being to picky to load for. If $$ are not a problem my try a Proof research carbon. Personally for a tops hunting gun I wouldn't fuk around with a suppressor ( Darren @ DPT makes good stuff ) but a decent side ported brake like a terminator will be far more practical, firstly they are lighter, they don't spoke game ( especially if ya fuk up the first shot ) as the sound of the shot is defused around the hills & not straight at the target, they fit in a scabbard easier, don't ruin the rifles balance as they are lighter & make shooting big guns a joy for recoil.

I have two LR tops rifles, one a 338 edge, heavy #5+ contour 26" barrel plus brake. weighs between 9.5- 9.75lb depending on scope, It's a great gun & shoots excellently. Second is a MKV Weatherby that was originally a 308 & is now a 30-06 tim ( terminator improved max ) this thing is basically doing 300 win mag performance but only weighs 6.75lb all up and is my current "go too gun" I love this thing.

If I'm having to walk to the tops instead of taken "the kitchen wisk" I know which one I'll chose
Shoot it, root it & then BBQ it !!!

It is indeed Cerakote done by ol' mate Victor. The colour it Titanium blue on the rings, bolt handle, flutes, trigger guard and ends of suppressor. As for the grey would need to check the records.

PM me if you want to know more about it or the Cerakote @Shearer.

Thanks @Double Shot. I had a look at Greystone Guns Cerakote and they didn't seem to have anything like that grey. Hard to say from a computer screen though.

A 24' barrel still shoots the 212 eldx at 3000fps so dont think the extra 2+ inches is needed. Its still very portable also, use mine for everything, in the bush for very close stuff and out to as far as you like really. Have a brake and a suppressor for it also. Just put it in daypack and spook and shoot as is or screw on suppressor when needed. Generally If you have time to range and dial, put plugs in ears etc then you have time to screw a brake or suppressor on the weapon.
