Ah nzhs, all those giggles we had about taking military rifles hunting and why do you need a bayonet.

Just for that I am going to saber rattle and out bid war you guys, then sporterize it cut stock and barrel and put a tasco brand scope on it. Then I'm going to post the pics here and bathe in all your tears.

I don't think they sold, not listed on the sellers feedback last time I looked.
Would have been a hell of a price to pay for consecutive numbers on a pair of otherwise worn and unremarkable No1Mk3's if someone had bought them.
Not that I can blame the seller for trying.

The wrap was simply the storage method of choice when the rifles were in humidity and oxygen level and temperature controlled warehouses in armouries in the UK.

Once the wrap was broken to confirm the serial number when they hit NZ the usefulness of the wrap became nil - and cosmolene is hydroscopic so under all that pretty tar paper and under the grease next to the steel you could have water pooling and forming corrosion. So, you're +$500 wrap fee actually = an unuseable $0 rifle once the wrap is off. I've seen this happen once, complete with tears.

I can only guess it's like a gift that you never unwrap because you either like surprises, or you don't want to ruin the possibilities by actually opening it. The wrap is worth NADA...
Never understood it either, it's like the odd kid at primary school who got (new) toys but kept them in the box/package and didn't play with them. Sure, they're worth more 40/50 years later, but so would the $10 or whatever that they cost initially.

From what i can gather it has been stored in a greese tube. And was purchaced from the british army many years ago.
Any ideas on what a value might be??
shit loads bro i would think $800 with out to much trouble, maybe even more depending on how excited people get over it. dont unwrap it leave it as is.

It's a nice looking rifle, but he will be waiting a long time before he gets $1500 for it unfortunately

Needs someone like Turtle to comment but it is a 1949 Fazakerly (mmm spelling) unfortunately nothing special. But having said that, in unused condition, not unfired as it will have been factory fired, it is all down to the market at the time of sale. Plus good #4s are going up in value. I had one exactly the same (PF49) but mine had been regulated by Fulton which may lower the value in the eyes of a collector. Mine also had a mismatched butt stock. I sent it off for $500 which was a fraction cheap. The un-issued Irish sealed/bagged ones that came on the market some years ago occasionally appear on places like Tardme and they seem to go for around a grand.

I have 5 lee enfields. Two of them I bought last year. Both ww2 no4's 1 in the grease. Never fired. Payed 875 in feb last year and one in excellent unused but out of wrapper like your mates (except its war time production) for 780 in august last year. 5 years ago when I was more into hunting and modern rifles. You would pick one up unused unissued for 400 bucks. I reckon he could get a 1000 bucks for it if he's patient. Or 850 on trademe tomorrow. Just my 2c. probly payed to much for my rifles but I like to have em.
