Another option I've had really good results with is the Fiocchi loaded with the 150gr SST. Was my go to before I started reloading.

I haven't shot many deer, just not my thing but when I have it was always with corelocks, never lost an animal but was just wondering if they were old school ( which they are but still sounds like they are held in high regard )
Thought I would see what the cool kid's on the block are using.
Sounds like 150 gr soft points weather Rem, Fed or Hornady will do the job .
Anything that uses the 150g hornady interlock bullet will work, used to use the sst bullet but it damaged a lot of meat up close.
up close n personal...180grn winchester power point...its the ducks nuts and felt recoil is LESS than the 150grn same stuff....... these fellas have got you sussed for out a bit further but sub 50 yards you wont beat those 180s.
Used the whitetail stuff myself when using a .308. Always seemed to kill things dead.

My 16” Howa Mountain Rifle loves these, clover leafs them at 100m.
They are unfortunately slow (2300fps) out of the short barrel, while this makes them ideal at short range, they have a trajectory like a 30-30.
I tried 150gr standard loads but it really hates them, like 6” group hates them for some reason!!
However, I have now tried the Hornady Superformance 150gr GMX load, and wouldn’t you know it, shoots them under an inch at 2700fps to the same POI at 100m as the 180s!
So now I use the 180gr in the Bush (GMX would work great but at $4-50 a round I will use the cheaper option!) and carry the GMX in my bino pouch in case I get a longer shot.
Tops I just take the GMXs.
Need to get my reloading setup sorted once I buy another house!

I use Ammo Directs "Freedom" ammo. I have had good results in the 308s I have used it in .https://ammodirect.co.nz/online-shop...dom-munitions/
Plenty of expensive options with fancy bullets @viper but I don't think you'll gain much...
Cool rifle by the way. A 788 in 243 is on my list to own one day.

Cheers, yeah I was given it by a family member, not mint but in bloody good condition.
Looking forward to getting it going, will post a picture at some point.
Hopefully get it sighted in this weekend if the weather plays ball.
