577 Enfield what does this say ?

I visited a vintage rifle trader today to look at a couple of rifles for him

The 577 Enfield is a NZ marked constabulary carbine
    Exceptionally nice wood work
    Nice bore
    Exterior metal not as good

But with my eagle eyes I noticed what looked like a stain on the stock was actually a name
It's on the left behind the lock screws
    We couldn't possatively decide it

What do you guys think this says
Blow up the image and see what you think

"_. PORTER" no doubt about that. Not PORTOR, the E just has large serifs.

    Unsure about the initial.

Every picture is taken to show the main body of text and as the initial is on the curved edge it has reflection over it. Do post a picture taken of the initial only.

Please do not visit these people without me
You know that you need me there to carry heavy things
And you also know that when I'm there that you don't need to oil the items
My greasy paws and clammy mitts will do a much better job
bumblefoot, Micky Duck and wekaman like this.
