And it's a REAL Tikka (made by Sako)! If this was a Kack-hander it would already be mine...

Long barrel heretics . I'd go 20 inch stoke the fuck out of it and run the 129 Lrabs for everything.

Well, I would take the M70 and set the 6.5x284 up for a long range rig, esp as you have a .260 and a saum by the sounds of things,
I Know lots guys like tikka, but I detest the small action port size, much rather a sako, M700 or M70 as easy to top load or single feed, and I rather a Winchester featherweight stock, over a tikka as the fit is better for me.
savage makes 6.5x284 in several of their nicer rifles.

Serious shooters has a savage 16 in 6.5-284. Want to much money for it IMO but would save a shit ton of faffing around with gunsmiths ect, and will shoot feckin well

Got a Ruger chambered in 6.5x.284 went a little further as I had a .270 but tell you what it is a damn decent weapon and very accurate out to 500m (furtherest target) Te Ruger is a damn good rifle, it won't let you down... I'm a touch biased as I have 4 and am building another in .308 Norma Magnum...

    Go the Ruger!

    Here's mine...

In all honesty i just want a simple honest gun that works in a hunting scenario, probably wont even bother with supressing it, just something I can slap a vx3 on and go hunting. Im not looking to build a full custom so was thinking my best option would be buying something in 6.5 and having the chamber reamed. Theres a few options floating about at the moment and im just after any opinions and any advice from others that have been down this route. One is a ruger M77 hawkeye in 6.5x55, and another option would be either a winchester model 70 featherweight or a new T3. Had a model 70 featherweight (270) a few years back and I really liked it, also owned a hawkeye in 6.5x55 which was a nice rifle once the terrible trigger was sorted.
If I buy a new rifle to have reamed im guessing I would be best looking for a 6.5x55 rather than the likes of a 260 due to action lengths?
Also, I have heard that lots of gunsmiths dont like reaming tikkas as it wrecks their reamers, any truth in this?
Keeping in mind I would try keep the cost down on this rifle am I on the right track? What sort of cost am I looking at for a new re-barrel instead?

    Greetings from Norway.
I have done just what you is asking about.
I brought a tikka t3 in 6.5-55 and got my smith to ream it to a .284
I upgraded the rifle with a Mcmillan game scout stock and a timney 2 stage trigger.
the barrel is 55cm and it shoots factory norma 130gt in 860ms(2821fps).
It groups factory ammo in 0.5cm in 3 shots. Its a real shooter.

I have loaded 143eldx with norma n15 and got pressure sign at 880ms(55gn with n15) reduced the load with 0.5gn and settled with 54.5gn and a speed on 870ms with the 143 eldx.
I have had some custom builds now, but this is the cheapest and best so far.
The rifle is topped with a s&b3-20us and a spuhr mount.

Why bother when you can get 2800 with 130 gn from a good 6.5*55 Schultz and Larsen.

Yes @Tahr and @Gibo. I just was'nt wanting to say so high. 2800+ with 140gn from 6.5*55 is plurry accurate in mine. Need a strong modern action though; not an old one.
