    Its always the wrong question...

    The questions to ask are..

    Specific projectile choice and weight

    Desired speed at which pushed

Utility that the cartridge brings specifically (ie action length, weight of rifle, choice of rifle etc)

Intended normal use parameters ( target species, environment Bush/open tops/ big game small game/varmint etc etc)

These are interrelated questions, the answers inform each other question...

I have reached the conclusion that I always start with the projectile/ammo choice, then go to desired speed based on functionality for purpose. The rest falls into place more easily.

Thus asking the question is the 6.5 Creed hunting performance OK? is like asking how long is a piece of string...

I think its really about the 6.5 versus something bigger argument...the creed made the conversation relevant and then the PRC changed it again. I still struggle with it a little, my mates 6.5x55 is perfect on sika to 400ish yards and we don't have any evidence too much past that, I prefer to live with the bigger recoil of my 284 shooting 162's because its still manageable and no doubt at all it has more killing power close and further out. It shows a gap in what's available to us if the 270 is even in the discussion for longer ranges, Hornady need to produce a 7mm on the 6.5prc case perhaps.

Here's an old farts opinion. A 140 grn 6.5 caliber bullet with a minimum MV of about 2,600 fps or over will kill any deer out to 300 yards at least. Regardless of the head stamp. If its stamped "Creedmoor" or whatever who cares.

.....something about arseholes......& opinions..... Just go hunting - but remember to carry "enough gun" for your intended purpose.

It would be a bloody horrible night spent in camp with some of you if this is all you can talk about

A greater fear would be if it turned to politics.

    Yep... like I said..

Projectile - speed - purpose - preferences to suit purpose.. paraphrased....

Several large sambar stags over the last couple years hate my creed. All bar one only took a few steps and the one exception was entirely my fault. Excellent all round cartridge, my top choice for all big game New Zealand hunting. There is no substitute for shot placement with any caliber though.

I have a 6.5 PRC using Berger 156g projectiles for hunting and love it. Will be building a custom 7mm PRC for targets very soon!
What twist are you thinking there? 1/7?

7mm PRC looked it up- now that does have some real bang - if one was going down the track of a longer range cartridge I presume one would have to reload for it ?- and how does it in the real world compare to say 300WSM which one may well be able to get factory for - or the tried and true 7mm Rem Mag ?? just interested

They do make factory ammo for them but anyone serious about longrange should reload anyway I reckon
