7prc is available off the shelf in 175eldx or 180eldm my 20" barrel Tikka pushes the 180grn at 2800fps.

Be better off with a 7RM

my thoughts are that under 300m it literally doesn't matter.
past 300m I prefer 6.5 as I like the ballistics more, but if I spent time with .308 I'm sure I'd get used to it and be fine. I also have a stuffed shoulder that pinches the nerves and the creedmore with a muzzle brake means I can still feel my fingers after a day at the range.

a lot of the arguments here feel like the arguments betwen samsung and apple, ford and holden crap. they're so close together that there will never be a obvious best choice so just get what you like and don't be a goddamn weirdo online about it.

PRC fits the Tikka mag better without loosing powder space as it's fatter and shorter than the rem mag.

I agree with above statement with one small change....A 140grn projectile with minimun MV of about 2,600 blah blah blah the size of the shaft/hole/shank isnt going to matter much unless taken to really extreme ends of spectrum......243=6mm 264=6.5mm .277=7mm .284 =7mmand a bit .308=7.62mm etc etc

6.5 Creedmoor with 143gr ELDX doing 2800fps has 1791ftlb / 2375fps @ 300yd & 1418ftlb / 2113fps @ 500yd
.270 Winchester with 145gr ELDX doing 2900fps has 1853ftlb / 2399fps @ 300yd & 1412ftlb / 2094fps @ 500yd.

Simply put, .270 has 62ftlb & 24fps on the creedmoor at 300yd & by 500yd, the creedmoor has actually overtaken the .270 in both speed & energy, all while using considerably less powder & less felt recoil.

A dig at .270? absolutely not. Just interesting to see how many people are stuck in their ways with some of the older calibres & refuse to accept that technology moves on and things can in fact be better than what they have used for some time. 6.5 Creedmoor is certainly not the be all and end all, but imo its better than alot give it credit for.

There are very few loads that see 2800fps in a 6.5 creed with said projectile.
There are several that see 3000fps with a 270w.

That said, i would rather shoot and own a creedmoor

Not really, my own and a few others i know of happily push a 143gr ELDX along at 2800+. Mine does 2920 with a stiff load of RL26. But sure, even if we knock 100 off the creedmoor and add 100 on the .270, Theres still not a huge advantage going with something like a .270 win by the time you account for the better BC of the 6.5 Projectiles, With the added bonus of less recoil and less powder burnt which was my point from the beginning.

Is does the .270 have more power and capability as a handloader compared to 6.5 Creed? Absolutely. But for the average joe buying ammo off the shelf and shooting an off the shelf rifle, theres next to nothing in it.

Getting 2920fps with a creedmoor would just open another set of questions for me.
I stick pretty close to published data though in the absence of reliable pressure indicators.

As i wrote above, stiff load, 24" barrel. 1gr over hornadys book max. GRT shows it to be right on max & .5gr more starts to faintly swipe the brass. Brass is on its 6th loading now and still fine.

More my point is 2800+ with the 143 is pretty easily achievable in the creedmoor.

Oh yeah, fair enough. My 6.5s tend to be around 2750 or 2900 with the 120gr I now use.

Rl26 makes a big difference. Doesnt get anywhere near 2900 with anything else.
