As it happens, I have a 6.5x55 and it kills critters large and small without drama out to sensible ranges, if I think I might be up for something a bit further out, I reach for something else with faster or bigger wheels, Robbie has been trying to talk me into using an action I have spare to build a 6.5 STW, now that, is a 6.5 hotrod !, so far I have resisted, so far.....

He ( Allen) already admitted that the 6.5 STW and his baby are pretty much tomato/ tomatoe, but the STW has better brass life at the same pressures.

Get a 7mm Mag if you must drive lighter projectiles fast, .264 120gnTTSX vs .284 120gnTTSX, not much difference in the bc values and my 7mm Mg drives the 120gnTTSX at 3500fps and groups them outstandingly well, but if I want, I can switch to the 180 Berger and say "see ya later" to anything .264.
I see your point, but the OP said that this was not an issue and with that logic you might as well get a .338 Lap Mag and say "see ya later" to anything in 7mm....

    Plus its a .264 thread....

    Mag length no problem, even in a Tikka, a 140 6.5 is shorter than a 162-180 .284

Going back to the original post a 308 is probably all you want. Good out to 300m plus. Good for a bush hobbit gun and reasonable for more open country. Plenty of options with 'roll your owns' too.

Thats what I was after. Is meat in the bolt face an issue or standard 06' case head since Ruger like to keep em in normal length actions?

The 26 Terminator is the 6.5-375 Ruger & has a standard magnum bolt face .532.

I also do the 6.5-06 Improved with the standard .473 bolt face.
