You would want to of a fairly sturdy stature , definitely not for a weed like me
I've shot 2 cattle beasts and a deer with the 416 remington.
350 barnes x points at a guess maybe 2200fps tops. They aren't an explosive bullet but drove well. Nothing spectacular damage wise.
Got some 340 woodleighs that easily do between 2500 and 2700fps.
Quite a bit stouter on the shoulder and generate 70 odd ftlbs recoil.
Haven't shot anything with those loads.
Even the expandy bullets aren't that expands so doubt a 600 would do anything other than drive that calibre hole In and out on a deer
Some big numbers here , out of John Taylor’s book.
shotguns arent normally too bad..until you shoot one prone.... but the remington hypersonic loads take them back into naaasty territory ,really wouldnt want to try it in a break open gun. 1 1/4oz going 1700fps boots at both ends.
75/15/10 black powder matters
I was wondering how that compared to shotgun slug loads. Some of those are absolutely brutal, worse than anything else I've shot.
I shot a pump action with slugs in the prone position.
And i'm a skinny dude, it was'nt too nice after a dozen shots.....
Use enough gun
Im a few years off shooting my B.P. 40mm.......
Kinda on the lookout for a 20mm OE barrel to add to the 'round tuit' list......,
Use enough gun
Hi just a correction, it was a 505 Gibbs that I brought at the Naki shoot. 600 gr behind 134 gr of powder , and that is the starting load.
Now here is the very fun fact : I had been told that rifle had a mercury recoil reduction device in the stock. And a couple of weeks ago an acquaintance of mine met the original owner. Due to some legal importation restrictions, the mercury recoil device had been removed. So whoever shot my gun on that big bore shoot day could have appreciated the full power of the Gibbs
Thank you for the correction, I couldn't remember exactly the calibre apart from the 5 at the start.
