I have a 6.5PRC, factory T3x 24 inch barrel running 143Eldx at 2963. Tipped over bull tahr at to 474m over the weekend, shot a few others between 330-450. Also shot large reds out to 342m. If shot placement is good they go down quick.
It is a joy to shoot and carry being pretty light and very accurate. Wind will be your biggest issue, but that goes for all calibres.
I have found the 143s a bit pencily as well if not hitting bone, but as said above the 147 is a different killer.its an internal mincer.
Of you're going to keep the barrel long, go for it. I went from 7mm rem mag at 24 inches to 6.5 prc at 20 inches and I regret chopping it.
I've also got a 300wsm now. The 6.5 is far less forgiving on shot placement than the 7mm was, combination of speed and mass of bullet I'm sure. I'm using ELD-X as I did in the rem mag.
In my case the prc has about the same recoil as my old rem mag because it weighs significantly less then the rem mag did.
Still kills deer, longest shot with the prc has been 250 yards, behind the high shoulder spot, tipped over a fallow spike no problem.
sorry that was typo 2780 with 59grns rl25 147eldm.was in the low 2600s with factory eldx precision hunter.terrible.
Im pushing the 156 berger at 2950 in a 24inch tube and 2800 in a mates 20inch
No argument there, I haven't shot anything other than paper with the wsm but my mate has one and complains that the damage is unreal on anything he shoots. He's trying to find a bullet that does less damage!
Yeah 2900 with the 147 would be great, probably achievable too. I'm sending 143 ELD-X at 2950 but that's maxed out with 2217 and Lapua brass. I might play with the 147s one day...I did hear a lot about them failing in flight and that they aren't as efficient further out compared to the 140 ELDM, but I haven't experienced it personally.
