The 7 mag is a bit shorter. Probably goi g to help as both will be reasonably restricted in the tikka mags. I'd want a longer mag length to get the most of the 300. Not that it won't kill shit way out at mag length, but if you are looking for an arbitrary reason to pick one over the other, that's as good as any in the tikka platform

I load 200 gr ELDX in my 300 WIN MAG to mag length with RL 26 for 2900 fps ( COAL 85.5 mm) no problems.

Rem mag goes fine in the T3x magazine too. You can remove the steel lip at the end which gives you more length to play with if you want. Mine are at 30thou jump and fit in the magazine.

Sorry. This is a big boys thread.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

I have both. The .300 WM chucks 208s at 2980 and the 7 RM throws 180s at 2840. Both have the same effect on whatever they hit. Both push back pretty briskly, but brakes keep it sensible.

All of that said, I rarely use them in favour of my .284 Win, which cost way less than both magnums and is just as accurate.

7mmRM is a little flatter in trajectory, apart from that pretty comparable

    Had both.

    Hindsight is a sod.

I think for the 300win mag vs 7mm rem mag debate it's not a fair comparison due to the difference in case capacity of the 300win mag. I think you're going to compare a 300 win to a 7mm you should compare it to the 7mm practical.

The difference in muzzle blast and recoil between a win mag and a rem mag is significant so if you dont mind a heavier longer rifle go the win mag.

If you want a lighter rig that won't boot you round and will still knock things down at range go the 7mm.

I sold my 300 win mag and went and built a 284win- have never looked back
