@Hiawatha thanks for the comments it all builds a picture. I will be keeping my cz until new rifle ready to shoot. If I'm lucky might be able too sell that when time comes and end up with both montana and model 7 for a real comparison. Would not be able to afford to keep both long term.

Am struggling that a rem model 700 / 7 would be lighter than a montana with syn stock 5 1/2 lbs unless it had major work done on it.
    A wooden stock one maybe.
Anyway here is a pic 708 Kimber 223 CZ527 and Short action Ruger.
No model 7 or Tikka at the moment .

I hear you. We did weigh the complete rifles and things like different scopes and additions to the Kimber would have made a difference, but the bottom line is that it was stuff all. We both fully expected the Remington to be noticeably heavier just like you. I really rate the Macmillan stocks too. You can buy them on Trademe and their shape and style is great. Man I cant wait to get out with it again.

Nice line up there @Bill999 have a tikka 6.5 x 55 which after I've sorted a 223 I'm going to sell and go 308 short Bush rifle for my deer hunting. That will be another can of brand worms! Like the smooth way the tikka cycles. The short little cz action that fits the cartridge size so well is not as silky smooth.

The cz I had was very pokey, nice but not hard wearing enough for how I use rifles in blued / wood

A sako 85 stainless with a carbon stock would be about as good as it gets
The price is pretty up there tho

The Kimber's are pretty great for the crap I put them thru

Yeah the sharkskin finish all worn off on my one (montana) now, but it gets a lot of use.
Which gunsmith did the improvements to the stock for ya?

This is what my cz stock would do in the wet before I refinished it. Posted this from my pH so bit of a test with the image resize etc

I'm not sure who did the butchery it was like that when I got it, all mine are second hand
Iv got another one with a couple of chips out of it so I would be interested in finding out how to do minor repairs to them
Probably just fibreglass resin but I'd rather not trial and error

I believe Kimber have stopped making the Montana in 223 and 243.

I heard that too wonder whats up there. For that reason I'm wondering if the model 7 with aftermarket stock is my better option. I wonder if theres any 223 specfic parts in the Montana that would need replacing in the long run that may become hard to get. I've no experience with the Kimber but believe there is a plastic insert in the mag well to make the 223 shell fit. Anyone had to replace it? Any thoughts on this. I will most likely never selll this rifle so it needs to last

If you are going to go down the road of getting a carbon fiber stock then you'll probably save some dollars if you just get one inletted for the CZ527 like I did, and get the action and barrel coated. Since getting my CZ and Contender coated it's solved all rust problems.

@joelhenton Doe's the coating protect the chamber area as well?
