He had a permit, as he brought a custom action at the same time.
Had to get both thing's on the permit and pay a 250USD export fee for both parts.

Yip. No problems getting hi cap PMagss or 9mm AR mags recently. Obviously you need an import permit at this end as customs will stop them. Biggest issue is making sure the manufacturer is approved for export.

Only if the parts are over US$100 or it is a restricted part, ie action, trigger, barrel etc and they need to file export paper work. Think they charge 3% of the order from memory.

So Brownells will ship things over 100USD to NZ provided you get an import permit?
Then they sort the rest from their side?

Basically. They email you a couple of forms that have to be filled in and posted back to them with the exporters copy of your NZ Import permit. Brownells then submit them to the US State dept who then issue an export permit. Takes about 4 weeks from the time you mail back the paperwork. Just make sure what you are ordering is approved for export before getting an import permit. Usually getting the NZ import permit takes the most time.

Good luck finding any semi auto that uses AI .223 mags (if you do, please let me know....)
