From those two I've only tried the barnaul and it wasn't impressive. Had success with hornady 55gr training ammo and the trusty 50gr american eagle with a 14.5inch 1/7 barrel.

Does anyone do larger quantity deals on the hornady brass training ammo, or is it always around a dollar per round?

Yes seems to be around a buck a round dropping to around 90 c if buy by the 1000 from reloaders supplies, but you can keep all the brass(that you find) and save to reload one day if feel the urge?
Tried heaps of expensive heavy factory loads that all the magazine write ups say shoot "amazing", didn't find any better than 55gr Hornady apart from you get 20rds instead of 50 for the price!
I know a guy who swears by the American Eagle out of his CMMG

By my math this is under $0.80 a round and you could always hit him up for a deal if buying 1000+

AE .223 - the "AR" branded stuff.
Shoots f**kin' awesome out of my Windham Varminty thing with the fancypants barrel.

Cheap too. Think I paid $90 for the last 100 rounds.

I have tried lots of handloads and factory brands. Have always found the steel cased hornady was the best bang for buck accuracy wise. Fiocchi 55gr sp is good but pricey. The 62gr Belmont sprays. Barnaul sprays.

    Thanks @jackson21
Once the AR is together I'll try the selection I have and then maybe look at others after verifying accuracy.
I have a box of the 62gr Belmont among others so will be interested to see how it goes.

Yes, I've shot katipo very unsuccessfully out of my ar. I hope to develop a hand load that can match the American Eagle out of my cmmg, its so accurate it just pinholes it. Have found seating depth to be the biggest definer of accuracy in my case, longer rounds seem to shoot better.

Yeah I've got the rce with 1:7 twist. I've read that the american eagles are just vmax but still can't get vmax hand loads as accurate
Cheap hornady and copper coated projectiles only good enough for 3 gun but can get Berger and targex projectiles to group nicely.
Was worried at the start and if I hadn't found the ae223 rounds I'd have sent the gun back

Also recommend Hornady Brass ammo, about $50 per box of 50

I'd say that katipo has been on par with hornady brass training ammo in my case
