You are wrong. I have already imported AR parts from the USA including lowers so I have a US permit to do so. NZ permits off my AO for A cat is an easy ring up to make an appointment and then a 20min hike to the Police station for the paper work. The issue these days is a) the $250US charge on the order the US State department insists on and b) the exchange rate now sucks, 0.85 v 0.65 is a huge hit. However for about $2kNZD in parts it still is looking economic even paying the landing fees and GST due to the markup on parts.

Also if the Cat A part is $99.99USD or less, not ammo, not a lower, upper or barrel then no State Department fees are involved. So small items like firing pins that are $30NZ here are $6US, or a BCG at $80USD and worth = $180NZD to my door as they are $300NZD+ here so well worth it.

No and I do not intend to.

Example, Last weekend we were fault finding a 308w FTR with a <1200 round count trueflight match grade barrel on it. The best we could do was get 5s with a not good vertical spread with an occasional V dropping to 4s. What we determined was that the barrel had to be cleaned every 12 rounds, ie between each 10 round shoot (2 sighters) ready for the next to keep the five+s up. The problem becomes when you do a 15round shoot ( 17 incl 2 sighters) as by this stage the barrel is clearly shooting off and costing points but you have a time limit to do shoot them all in. On top of that I was shooting the club's spare FTR with the same make of action earlier in the day but with a good Kreiger barrel on it and getting runs of Xs and Vs, while using a fixed mag dodgy nikko scope v a new vortex on his.

This is just one more incident with a match grade trueflight barrel in a string of unhappy stories that says to me no thanks I'll put my $800+ where people say they are happy as the risk of an issue seems lower to do so.

unless a group buy happens, it may just be worth getting the nz importer(nzrac) to add some to his next order

mitch maxberry has one s/steel bar barrel and a couple of 20' moly service ones. great barrels , easy to clean I find. 26 -20 in fps is not much anyway.

Yeah 20" seems to be the best length for usability vs velocity.

Interesting story, but like most TF tales it is pretty pointless...

There are so many variables that could make a rifle shoot poorly - the shooter, stock, bedding, poor reloading etc, etc. I got a TF barrel from someone who called it a piece of crap (literally). Rechambered it, and went on to win several regional comps with it. Now I use a Lilja, and am getting a Shillen on my gong rifle. Each barrel shoots differently, cleans differently, and behaves differently in terms of cold clean bore shots and fouling....

So if anybody has shitty TF barrels they no longer want, send them this way
