    Barrel length with suppressor added

    For the ballisticians
Does a suppressor effectively increase your barrel length
    eg
If one bought a 24" barreled rifle, cut the barrel to 20"then added a suppressor which added another say 4" forward. .
Does one now have a 24" barreled rifle again with the corresponding normal velocity?
Or does it not work like that

Na.....you might get 10 or 20 fps at most from the suppressor

What VC said. Projectile needs the high pressure gases up its arse in the barrel to increase velocity, so when it leaves the 20" the gas pressure drops and expands into the suppressor loosing its drive.

I've never tested it. Might take a look at that tomorrow. I've got a sonic 40 to play with

Ballistics vs barrel length also depends on the calibre and load you are shooting. From what I understand the typical .22LR gas expansion is all done amd dusted at about 12", anything after that is just drag and dropping velocity.
