Use a tactical shovel and learn how to throw it properly.

FYI Dustin won History Channel's Top Shot tv show a couple of years ago. Think reality tv like Survivor but with guns and shooting stuff

I can dig it, but you'd be better off 'pick'ing Zombie brains.

What happens if you miss? "can I have my spade back please?" isn't really going to work, eh?

They have been issued to the Russian army for a while and I assume they feature some way in Spetsnaz or Systema training.

Cold Steel make the copy that guy was using. http://www.blademaster.co.nz/shop/ex...ELS/-92SF.html

Ignoring the tacti-kewl marketing by cold steel it is obviously a solid spade/slasher/hatchet/frypan in its original form.

Reminds me of that scene from Mad Max 2 where the guy tries to jump up to catch the aluminium boomerang

Victor Suvorov (a pseudonym) is a former Spetsnaz officer who wrote about the training with the spade in his first book Spetsnaz.
My recollection is that the combat training with the spade had a lot to do with potential weapon malfunctions in cold weather. N.B The Russians have kept making corrosive primed ammo precisely because it is more reliable in arctic and subarctic conditions, especially after years of storage!
A good shot at close range beats a 'hit" at a longer range.

many a possum has succumbed to a tap on ye old swede with a tacticool hammer or grubber too.myself i prefer ye old tacticool tomahawk ,weilded with dare i say it boyish enthusiasm. oh yes -bro and i had another a bloody war club -a suitably molded(read with tomahawk)piece of rimu4x2 with a large knot in one end which we then studded with Dads lead head nails (nb I can stillfeel my arse stinging from his reaction on finding out) neccessity was the mother of invention ,plus i was too young to get a .22
