After flicking off my near unused Marlin 30-30, I bought a new .223 takedown Bergara with overbarrel DPT can. Fitted a Nikko sterling 3-9x40 scope ex my box of spares. Shot the rifle for first time last evening, using Belmont 77 gr. Yes, the unit initially feels heavy, but I like it. I soon adjusted to the single shot mechanism and for an old guy (more than 3 score years +10), was happy with its accuracy. Name: IMG_0982.jpeg

I've got a 308 Thompson Encore for sale that breaks down. Has been a great rifle but not using it.

If you want light and takedown the middle road costwize (without going Euro K95 etc at $5000+) then the Contender is a good option. I have two and would sell the wood/blued one but it would be $2000, your choice of 223 or 6.8SPC (baby 270 haha).

I do like them, and am considering getting one. Would be a great starter centrefire for my boy who has to shoot left hand.

I got my boy to have a go off a bipod when he was about 7 years old and it went well. He wasn't keen on the "big bang" having only fired subsonic suppressed 22LR previously.

I got one 223 20 inch barrel. With an old vx1 3-9 and weaver rings with sling is 3.7kg. No silencer. Because there is no action length even the 20 inch barrels are short. The 16 inch 308 has a decent muzzle blast without a silencer and your face is close. The lever to open it will eventually stab some part of your body when u fall over. Accurate and I like it. My family enjoys there tramping and stashing it in the pack is handy in busy areas. Carried and used mates 308 16 inch with silencer pig hunting heaps before I brought mine. We used subs around dogs. His got surface rust from neglect.
