Well I know what I like better
    A 42 or a 56 :-))
    No compare in my eyes

    Trust me
Kiwi are very slow on the move upwards
We had clothing that only took off after 6 years of our promo
Optics seem to be following same trend :-(

Why is NZ so behind Europe etc
    40 mm is gone/over unless on a .22
All of Europe are now 56mm

Kiwi's are slow - not only to fly but to move forward
    40mm ????
    So yesterday mate
I own one scope larger than 40mm...a 50mm 3x9 leupold that I got off mate at right price...the ONLY reason I got it is that the mounts on my little zastava are high and the 50mm looks better than 40mm...its a great scope but in all honesty Im stuffed if can see any optical advantage...even if I put it down on 4x my tiny by comparison M8 4x has better field of view and light gathering isnt an issue with either...in fact before I bought said 50mm scope my 3x9x40mm nikko stirling had BETTER light gathering.
I have no need for more than 9x and have shot deer out to 350ish yards and wallabies a bit further....
big scopes are bulky and heavy...fine for a tree stand but not so flash for stalking around in the boonies.

Sure. The 56 is nicer to look through but would you want to drag it through the bush behind your place? I would prefer a smaller unit.

    No
In fact if my eye sight wasn't so bad - in my terrain I have no scope
    But B
A 100grms in weight gain is what - one ortwo rounds of ammo for a HUGE extra light gather - in open terrain - no - not for bloody bush bashing

    You know my point !!

Ive spent in the hundreds of dollars on rings / mounts etc on some rifles to get the scope ( 42mm diameter) 3-4 mm lower and get it so that the scope just clears the bolt and barrel .
I have a real OCD when it comes to scopes mounted way higher than they should be and a 56mm diameter scope would just about do my head in .

Some body had a leupold 2.5-8*36 vxiii on here a week or so back for $400. They are a great all round scope.

Don't waste your money. Basic model where the viper is actually a quality scope. For your budget I wouldn't go less than a vx3i

Match your scope to your Binos light gathering. The worst most heart sinking disappointment (apart from missing a sitter) is looking at a deer or pig on dusk through the binos and not being able to see it in the scope. Going from a 40 to 50mm objective is not a big difference - the housing is still the same thickness so they are really very close in size.

Had that happen. Sika stag at 550yds watching him in my steiners. Set up my gun and could just make out the white rump with my 2.5-8 vx3. Got a hard lesson in glass that day
