Thread: Bipod heights

So what's everyone's thoughts of bipod height, been looking at the MTN ones and they do one at 8" and one at 12", the longer one is out of stock for a couple of months but is the option I am thinking about to be able to clear obstacles easier.

Is the 8" and 12" the minimum heights ? Ie: both models can be extended ?

Iv got the mountain I went for the long dins it brilliant shooting over banks and up hill in longer grass il measure . @dannyb both adjustable they donthe splits to which helps get higher or lower than that legs retracted which I find good

One would hope they have good stock of all products by the end of October for the sika show

It measures 15.5 inchs from feet to bottom of fore end when extended and half of that with legs retracted but then with the splits it gets as low as 3 inchs

So is that the 8" version that happ has mentioned ? Sounds pretty good to me

Thats the 12" mate i imagen the 8" would be around 11" to under side of fore end . The 8" has less range of movements though im not sure it does the splits some reading would be recommended

Sounds like the 12" is the one to get then

I always like to think of bipod heights in relation to the Harris sizes 6-9 or 9-13.

6-9 is only useful for bench shooting/target shooting of a flat range.
9-13 is considerably more useful in the field/uneven terrain/tall grass etc.

Bearing in mind you can do the splits the other way to make them straighter and taller the measurement is off the legs so being able to stand them up or lay them down makes it 3" to 15" where as the likes of the harris has fixed angles and measured on the shaft so a lot higher and lower

Mine are Harris. My 6-9 is for either BR or varmint use. The 9-13s get to see action on the deer rifles. The average experience is that you rarely used more than say 10" but there are times that 13" is necessary.

I run a Spartan bipod, recently bought the Davros head that attaches to a tripod, with a walking pole to stabilise the stock, I have everything from prone to sitting to almost a full standing height covered. The Davros is maybe 150 grams from memory..

Is the darvos a bipod or attachment for the javlin? Sounds good sounds like the addition of the mtn stick

A davros head fits to a standard tripod thread, it has a tensioned ball joint with a javelin style top on it that fits into the javelin flush cup you mount in your stock, you can literally mount it to any tripod so final weight depends on what size and style of tripod you use.
I have an artcise c60 (I think) carbon tripod which can go lower than any bipod but also up to pretty much full standing position.
Can't remember total weight but it is pretty handy for long tussock or steep country. Can even unscrew 1 leg to use as a monopod or walking stick.

The mtn will be much much lighter but it's not really comparing apples with apples

Thanks for everyones words, will wait for the longer MTN to be back in stock. I'm not likely to carry a tripod so see no advantage with the spartan
