    Blued rifle scope rings maintenance

    Hi everyone.

I recently bought a pair of blued Tikka Optilock rings from this forum. What is the best way to clean them and prevent them from rusting? I've searched a lot of old forum posts and books etc. There seems to be a general consensus to keep things like CRC away from scope lenses but little explicit advice on what to do.

Is it ok to use CRC but just make sure to keep it away from lenses? Is grease better? Is there a product I should be using instead?

    Cheers for the feedback.

I just give the rings a quick wipe with a patch with gun oil on it when I clean the rifle, only the scope tube near the rings gets any oil on it.

You don't have to do anything stupid like dismount the scope to coat the rings completely?

Inox MX3 is a great product (much better than CRC IMO). If I am installing a scope I give all metal bits a wipe and then just treat them like any other metal piece on my rifle.

Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

I lightly oil all surfaces when first mounting the rings and scope, I figure with the tight fit water doesn't have much chance of displacing the oil under the rings. I had a scope on one rifle for over 25 years and there was no rust.

Just be mindful of fingerprints after you have finished cleaning the rifle and are putting it away
