The ones on this rifle are all meant to be hex screws too, I'm not going to be impressed if reloaders send me a flatblade one or something. It's a silly little issue, but something I really shouldn't need to deal with after dropping $1600 for a new rifle I assumed would be in good complete working order...

I suppose I can't fire it like this. Wanted to go hunting with it tomorrow night. Grr.

Don't fire the the rifle with the missing screw, it would put pressure on the remaining ones and the .308 recoil would not be good for them.

Cheers yeah I've always been a little wary - more so now! Received the correct replacement screw from reloaders yesterday, so all is good

The bore is dirty because the factory proof fired it , the don't clean them afterwards , in fact very few firearms manufacturers clean their rifles after proof testing , it would add too much to the cost .
Get as close as you can then six feet closer

How did you get on with the screw? Very important one that.
A tip... When you put the action into the stock, tighten the front screw (recoil lug) and the rear screw (tang) progressively until they are tight. Lastly nip up the front trigger guard screw. Not too tight. It can put undue stress on the middle of the receiver and effect the accuracy.

Lets say it takes 6 mins , that is about 80 guns per person per day , they would have to take on up to 20 more full time staff to cover peak production, sickness , annual leave etc . + the cost of the bore snakes . The consumer would pay for it .
